Lately, I've been intrigued by the damaged toes of ballerinas. Not sure where this interest stemmed from. I mean, Black Swan came out 6 years ago. (I saw it in theatres and it's fantastic. Very dark and artsy.)
In an attempt to find out why I keep looking up images of these alternatively beautiful feet, the only voice that kept crying out in my head was that these performers... these mesmerizing dancers have so much ugliness hidden underneath the tights and tutus. Grace and beauty at a cost.
We all have a level of ugliness that doesn't show in our social performances: debilitating diseases, mental illnesses, trauma... and we still keep going because that's what the human race does. We keep going. We keep dancing. We keep building and moving forward.
Pain for progress. Ballerina toes.
